Ground source heat pumps: an efficient and environmentally responsible alternative

ecoforest groundsource blog

Many people are thinking of geothermal energy as an alternative that can meet all the HVAC needs of a building in an efficient way using the energy of the ground. Why is that? Basically, because heat pumps are the most efficient HVAC system available on the market.

Geothermal energy is an inexhaustible and clean source of energy extracted from the ground. There are several types of geothermal energy, but the low-temperature geothermal energy is the one used to provide heat, cooling and domestic hot water (DHW) to homes through a ground source heat pump system.

An environmentally friendly and efficient heating system

One of the major benefits of a geothermal heat pump heating system is that it is environmentally friendly. As it is a renewable energy, it has a lower environmental impact. It does not emit CO2 into the atmosphere, so it does not pollute at all.

Another of its most important aspects is that it is much more economical. Although it is a little more expensive to install, in the long run it is cheaper than traditional gas or oil heating systems. You will save money on your heating bill, and the investment in the installation will pay for itself in a few years.

In addition, Spain has joined the European Union in its plan to promote the use of renewable energies in homes and businesses, so you will be able to find financial aid for installation, which will save you much more in costs.

Heat pumps are also very efficient equipment. The energy they generate is up to five times greater than the electricity they consume. Furthermore, with our inverter technology equipment, the heat pump will adapt to the demand of the home.

What's more, these heat pumps do not require constant maintenance. It is a robust technology that requires very little maintenance, with a very long service life.

Easy to install and durable heating system

Ground source heat pumps extract energy from the ground for the production of heating in winter, cooling in summer and domestic hot water all year round. This is possible because, from a depth of 15 metres, the ground remains at a fairly stable temperature throughout the year, which allows ground source heat pumps to do their job constantly.

Before proceeding with their installation, there are a couple of aspects that must be taken into account. On the one hand, we must check that the ground where it is going to be installed is suitable, and on the other, we must ensure that we have all the permits required to carry out the project.

On the other hand, the installation is simpler than it may seem. It is divided into two parts: on the one hand, the heat pump and the emission systems inside the building, and on the other hand, the geothermal well (the element that exchanges the heat from the ground). The installation process changes depending on the way you want it to be installed. For horizontal boreholes, you have to take out fragments of the ground, lay the pipes and cover them up again. If it is installed vertically, two pipes will be inserted to the depth required to meet the energy demand of the house.

The installation process may seem complicated, but in reality it is not. You can even make use of part of the installations of your previous heating system, if you have one, and thus save part of the installation. What's more, if you choose our ecoGEO heat pumps, we want you to know that installation will be much easier, as they are simpler, more compact and more economical than other heat pumps on the market. With our innovative technology and years of experience, we have made the installation of these pumps a headache-free process.

As you can see, this heating system undoubtedly has many advantages. Proof of this is that more and more companies and residential complexes are opting for geothermal heat pump systems to design new buildings that meet the requirements of high efficiency and energy savings. This was the case for the 42 new Adosas single-family homes that were recently built in Alcorcón, Madrid. The companies involved chose Ecoforest to carry out a cascade installation of 3 Ecoforest inverter water-to-water heat pumps, model ecoGEO HP3, to ensure that these new homes had the best system on the market.

If you are interested in installing geothermal heat pumps, you can contact us at any time and we will answer any questions you may have. You will see for yourself that we are a reliable and dedicated company.

ABOUT ECOFOREST

The Ecoforest group was founded in Vigo in 1959 at the hands of its owner and founder Jose Carlos Alonso Martínez, specializing in the heating sector. In 1993, Ecoforest became the first European manufacturer of pellet hydro stoves, bringing to the market a new, ecological and economic product.

Currently, Ecoforest is the leading company in the market with the widest range of pellet stoves and boilers. In 2012, Ecoforest decided to bet in another innovative technology and launched its first ground source heat pump to the market, being the only Spanish manufacturer of this product and the most specialized in inverter technology on the planet.

The R&D department of Ecoforest continues to innovate every day, in order to develop more advanced and more efficient products. Currently Ecoforest products can be found in more than 30 countries around the world.
