In the Butarque neighbourhood (Madrid), a major energy refurbishment project has been carried out, focusing on the replacement of an obsolete system based on thermal panels and individual natural gas boilers, whose main function was the production of DHW.
Our client, Sunflower Energies, opted for a modern and highly efficient solution: the installation of 8 ecoAIR+ 3-18 PRO air-source heat pumps, running on natural refrigerant R290, supported by a photovoltaic plant consisting of 120 solar panels.
Maximal energy efficiency
The selected air-source heat pumps have a combined capacity of 144 kW, allowing simultaneous and efficient production of DHW, heating and cooling.
Energy consumption before and after the intervention:
- Previous system (natural gas): 308,857.50 kWh/year
- New air-source system (grid): 93,593 kWh/year
- Of which 88,914.18 kWh are generated by photovoltaic self-consumption (95% of the total).
- Only 4,679 kWh/year are consumed directly from the grid.
Savings
Thanks to the new system, users have experienced an estimated economic saving of 20,506 euros per year, which represents a reduction of 80.8% compared to the previous system based on natural gas.
Amortisation
By grouping the savings achieved by the installation, together with the financing obtained through CAEs, IBI rebates and IRPF deductions, a payback period of less than 4 years is calculated.
Sustainability and environmental commitment
This project has not only improved the energy efficiency of the residential complex, but has also demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability. Thanks to the new installation, a reduction of 46.7 tonnes of CO₂ per year is achieved, equivalent to an 88.8% reduction in emissions compared to the previous system.
This success story has been included in the ANESE (National Association of Energy Services Companies) Technology Guide, as an example of good practice and a success story that can be replicated in the residential sector.
