A water-to-water ecoGEO+ 5-22 for residential installations produces heating, cooling, domestic hot water (DHW) and swimming-pool management for a detached house in Porto Rafti on the Greek coast. Ecoforest partner Aquascience has developed a project with a focus on the reduction of the environmental footprint of a family house.

This installation consists of a newly-built detached house of 220m2, consisting of three levels (basement, ground floor and first floor), producing heating, cooling, dehumidification, DHW, and swimming-pool management exclusively from the use of a closed-circuit geothermal system.

The inclusion of the HTR (Heat Recovery System) allows for the recovery of the heat in the system to heat the pool without additional energy, which results in an even more efficient system. The installation combines fan-coil units and underfloor heating and cooling as emission systems.

According to the geomechanically engineering study by Aquascience Ltd, the system requires loads of about 18 Kw and 4 Kw for pool heating. The installation consists of 4 boreholes of 100m depth each in a closed circuit.

Inside the boreholes, vertical double U geoexchangers were placed. Then, a heat-conducting material consisting of a mixture of bentonite (cement and sand) was filled throughout the column of the borehole. The temperature of the background is constant throughout the year and is never affected by external factors (cold, heatwave, etc.). This system transfers the temperature from the underground to the fluid circulating inside the pipes, which, in turn, drives it indoors.

Geothermal systems, also known as ground-source systems, offer many advantages as:

• Continuous supply of heating/cooling/DHW without any system required.

• Silent operation.

• Safe mode.

• Very high efficiency.

• Improving the energy class of buildings.

• Application in urban environments (even in confined spaces).

• Very low operating costs.

• Project depreciation in an average of 5-7 years.

Aquascience Ltd is staffed by experienced and specialized Geologists and is characterized by a strong commitment to environmental conservation.
