Emergency Medical Centre – Hybrid Installation: ground-source heat pumps and PVs

  • Location: Boskovice, Czech Republic
  • Equipament: Ground-source heat pump with an hybrid collection system
  • Model: 1 ecoGEO+ 5-22
  • Power: 23 kW
  • Services: Heating, DHW, passive cooling and active cooling
  • Installer: GT Energy s.r.o., IJO s.r.o.

The new Emergency Medical Centre in South Moravia (Czech Republic) has been designed as an extremely efficient installation. With this aim, the chosen equipment was a water-to-water heat pump with PVs. The centre has capacity to host for ambulances, warehouses for medical material, waste and areas for the medical team.

An ecoGEO+ B4 T 5-22 KW HTR EH, heat pump with 23 kW power relies on four boreholes to deliver heating, DHW, passive cooling and active cooling. Passive and active cooling systems come as a standard in Ecoforest heat pumps, which has simplified the design of the engine room.

Passive cooling in hybrid installations

The ecoGEO+ management system guarantees the preferential use of passive cooling, also referred to as free cooling as the heat pump can provide cooling without activating the compressor and, therefore, without electricity consumption. Only when the demand for cooling rises, the heat pump will activate the active cooling service.

The heat pump uses electricity from a photovoltaic installation with 66 panels of 450 Wp each. As emission system, the system uses underfloor heating and radiators. In summer, fan coils are used for cooling.

The building process has taken a year and 3 months. The South Moravia Regional Government has employed funding from the European Investment Bank.
